There are steps you can take to lighten the images on your PowerPoint presentation:

  1. Select the image by clicking on it until the "handles" show up on the corners
  2. Select the the "Format" page from the "Picture Tools" option on the ribbon
  3. Select "Corrections"
  4. Play around with the options until you find one that sufficiently lightens the image
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 for each image on the presentation that needs adjustment

The reason why the images became dark in this situation is because the presentation was created in PowerPoint, edited in OpenOffice, and then opened back in PowerPoint.  It is advised not to use programs other than PowerPoint to edit PowerPoint files.  COM students may download a free copy of Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, for use on their own computers.
