Select the save icon (floppy disk) on the top menu bar in the Word application. On the left-hand side of the save dialog box, look under "This PC" for the name of your USB device and select it.  Give the document a name and click 'save'. 

Note:

You can save your Word document in multiple formats. 

The .doc file extension is a file saved in the 97-2003 format. The .docx file extension is a file saved in the 2007-2010 format.

If you do not have Microsoft Word on your computer then you would have to save the file as a type as text file (.txt) or a rich text file (.rtf), and this can be done using any text editor.
