While we do not provide access to the Galveston Daily News, a number of libraries in the area do provide online access. You can see the list with links below

Meanwhile, we have quite a few news sources available online. Must access on campus or login with your COM account for off campus access.

We have sources that cover current news, and others that cover historical news. You can access them all here: A-Z Databases: News & Media. While all databases listed on the A-Z Databases News page include articles from newspapers and news sources, the three below are your best bets.

  • Gale OneFile News
  • Gale OneFile: News provides access to more than 2,300 major U.S. regional, national, and local newspapers, as well as leading titles from around the world. It also includes thousands of images, radio and TV broadcasts and transcripts
  • US Newsstream
U.S. Newsstream enables users to search the most recent premium U.S. news content, as well as archives which stretch back into the 1980s featuring newspapers, newswires, blogs, and news sites in active full-text format. For academic and public libraries, U.S. Newsstream offers exclusive access to the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, and co-exclusive access (with Factiva) to The Wall Street Journal. U.S. Newsstream also offers one of the largest collections of local and regional newspapers, and is cross-searchable on the ProQuest platform.
  • World News Digest
World News Digest is easy to use, with current news coverage as well as coverage from 1940 of major historical events from a variety of news sources, governments, and organizations—including ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Fox News, NBC News, NPR and Reuters.

As of the writing of this post, multiple public libraries in the area provide online access. Anyone that lives in Galveston County can get a card at Rosenberg or Dickson; anyone that lives in Texas can get a card at Harris County or Brazoria County.
