Classic works of literature are freely available on many websites. These classics can be read online or printed out. Some of these sites also provide PDF, Kindle and Nook formats that can be downloaded to a mobile device.
Project Gutenberg and Google Books have the most titles, but Project Gutenberg would have the most printer friendly version.
