Your question is very broad--it will actually be difficult to do a search without focusing on specific works or authors. For broad information on Greek and Roman drama, you can try the Ancient tab in our World History libguide (link below). It provides links to books, eBooks and articles on Greek an Roman literature.
If you are supposed to be writing about Greek and Roman drama in general, you still may have to pick out a few authors or works to search on specifically. For instance, try a search with Euripides AND tone or Medea and tone.
The best place to find articles on works of literature is in our literature databases. Use our Working with Literature libguide (see link below) to access the best literature databases and get step by step instructions. You may need to use all databases to find enough articles. Keep in mind that if you are off campus, you'll need your COM ID and last name to log in.
Here are some tips:
Literary Sources
- Select name of work after typing in story/poem title.
- Limit to Literature criticism under content type.
- You can also limit to peer reviewed publications--these will all be academic journal articles.
Literary Reference Center
- This EBSCO database has a unique interface designed to help you search more easily for literature.
- To get started you can do a search or select browse options such as Most Studied Authors or Full Text Classics.
- It is also searcheable using the EBSCO: All Literature databses option, below.
EBSCO: All Literature Databases
- You can limit to Academic Journals under Source Types
- It's also a good idea to take a look at limits available under Subject and Subject: Thesaurus terms. A good one would be CRITICISM.
And don't forget books! Books can be a great source for literature criticism. Check:
WorldCat
- Type in the title of the work or your author if there is no specific work.
- On the result list, use the Topic option to narrow down to Language, Linguis...
- Use the Topic list to narrow down even more until no more topic options are available. For instance, after you narrowed to Language, Linguis..., subcategories will be available depending on your search term. This will save you time!
EBSCO eBooks
You can use the same techniques here you’d use in any EBSCO databases. Click on Subject and see what options most closely match topic and select.
