Q. How do I do an in-text citation for a direct quote obtained from a website in APA format?

An APA style citation for this type of resource will involve the author's name, the publication year, and either the page or paragraph number.

If there is no author, use a shortened, italicized version of the title. If there is no publication year available, use n.d. (for no date).

For a direct quote, the citation information is immediately after the quote, not at the end of the sentence.

Example from Purdue Owl's APA guide with author name:

According to Jones (1998), "Students often had difficulty using APA style, especially when it was their first time" (para. 6). 

OR

She stated, "Students often had difficulty using APA style" (Jones, 1998, para. 6), but she did not offer an explanation as to why.

Example without author name:

According to some experts, "students love APA format" (Made It Up, 2000, para. 5).
