Modernist literature is generally considered to have been written in the early 20th century.  This Britannica entry on American Literature has a section titled "Writing from 1914 to 1945", and many writers' names are listed.

Britannica's entry on the Harlem Renaissance has subsections devoted to poetry, fiction, and drama in which numerous authors' names are presented.
