Get started by going to databases and choosing the Science page (link below).  This will show a list of our databases that are most relevant to your topic.  To get started, click on EBSCO Powersearch.

1. Type in hydropower for your initial search.

2. On the left side of the result list:

  • Click on the Full Text box
  • Limit dates to 2008-2013

3. Scroll down until you see Subject and click on it. You can select multiple subjects that apply to your topic. Probably the best ones are:

  • water-power
  • hydroelectric power plants

You can also choose United States under Subject as that is what you are concentrating on, and many of the articles involve other countries. But you may still find relevant information on the advantages in those other articles.

5. Many times finding all the best articles for your speech or paper involves doing several searches, so something else you can do is try entering your hydropower search with a point you want to support, such as "hydropower AND environment" or "hydropower and cost".

The library's guide to Writing & Researching for the Sciences is linked below.  You will find some very helpful resources in it.
