ProQuest Central and Gale Academic OneFile would be good databases to do a search in because they will let you search for peer reviewed articles.

In ProQuest Central, click on Advanced Search and put in hairstyles or hairstyling.  Click the "peer reviewed" box under the subject search and then click on search.  The resulting articles should be peer reviewed/academic articles.

In Gale Academic OneFile, you can do a search for your topic in the search bar and hit enter.  On the results list, you can use the filters on the right to select the "Peer Reviewed Journals" check box.  Your results should now be academic/scholarly articles.

You can also do a search in ProQuest Powersearch using the ProQuest instructions above - using the advanced search and making sure the peer reviewed check box is selected.  Powersearch will search multiple ProQuest databases at one time.
