You can try looking for information about this in books, articles from academic databases, and non-academic websites.

For books, follow the link below to our library catalog WorldCat and search for su:Cosmetics History.  There is one book in particular, Beauty & Cosmetics 1550-1950, that is a good bet to have information on this topic.

For academic articles, you can try our history databases.  Follow the link below to our Databases libguide and select the History & Genealogy tab.  Encyclopedia Britannica has some information about cosmetic history in it.  Searching for cosmetics history in Ebsco Academic Search Complete will retrieve an article about the history of cosmetics, and it mentions lipstick.  The article will be at the top of the search results (the author's name is Jain Chaudhri).

There is also a lot of information about the history of lipstick that you can find through basic searches on commonly used search engines like Google.  Of course, with materials you find this way you will have to determine if the information is reliable.  You can get help with this in our Find Internet libguide.
