There are a number of lists of movies/television shows that discuss social issues on the Internet. Use Google to search for a list to get examples of these films and shows.

You can then use the databases to search out some of those films/shows to get analysis information on how they portray society.  The best databases to search for articles on this topic would be the Social Sciences databases.  Access those at the link below.  I would search the ones listed under Best Bets! first.  Search for terms like "name of show" AND "social issues" or "name of movie" AND society.  You could also try searching terms like films AND society or television AND "social issues".
