An abstract is an author-written, concise summary of a report or paper. The abstract should be original, and not comprised of quotes from the paper it describes.

There are good online resources that provide tips and instructions for writing abstracts. I have linked a few below for your reference. They briefly describe abstracts for Humanities and for Science writing, describe what to include, and also give stylistic tips.
