Credo Reference has both topic pages and entries from eBooks about these topics.  Follow the link below to Credo, where you can find articles on these topics through a basic keyword search.

For articles, you can view a list of available history databases through the link below.  GVRL History eBooks has materials on the subject.  There are also many articles available through the databases provided by EBSCO.  However, the articles in these databases are typically about rather specific aspects of large events such as the Great Depression and World War II, and are not necessarily ideal if you are seeking general information on a big subject.  Once you perform a search in an EBSCO database, select the box next to Scholarly (Peer-reviewed) Journals to limit the search results to articles from academic journals.
