What is an internet browser? What settings do I need to use library databases?
A browser is simply what lets you access the internet. The most common browsers are Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari (for Macs).
To use library resources, you will want your browser to be up-to-date. You will need some plug-ins as well.
Plug-ins are just programs installed into your browser. You need them to do things like listen to music, watch videos, and read PDF documents.
Make sure that you have the following:
- Adobe Reader (to view eBooks and articles)
- Adobe Flash Player (to view animations, video & sound files)
If you want to check out eBooks, download Adobe Digital Editions.
These browsers and plug-ins are all free. Most browsers will prompt you if you are missing a needed plug-in, or need to update your plug-in.
Finally, allow trusted sites (such as COM Library and it's databases) to have pop-ups enabled.
