I started the search in out catalog, but I couldn't find a good match to your topic.

I found a reference articles in Encyclopedia Britannica and some articles in EBSCO.

Here is a guide about how to search in the databases. I used EBSCO's subjects headings (it's the second drop-down menu on the top of the page). I browsed for "writing", and I selected "Writing - History". This search gave me the most relevant articles.
