For articles on this topic, go to the Databases by Subject LibGuide, linked below. From there, select the Hot Topics tab. You will see links to several databases that are good for controversial and current event topics.

I started with Opposing Viewpoints. Click on the link to access the database. Once there, click the "Browse Issues" button in the grey banner at the top of the page. Locate Smoking in the list.

Once you select that link, you will access a Topic Page. The top article provides an overview of the subject. The Viewpoints articles are pro/con articles, and you will also see academic articles, newspaper articles, etc. Since you are taking the stance against smoking, select the View All link in the Viewpoints box.

You will see all articles on this topic. There are many reasons to be against smoking (or to support bans), so you will want to narrow down your topic for this paper. Once in the Viewpoints, you'll see a heading on the left to Limit Search, and some subjects underneath. Click the green + to see all the subjects. You can select one to only see the articles on this refined topic.

I also searched CQ Researcher. You can access the link back in the Hot Topics tab. In that database, you can type smoking into the search bar at the top. You will get a list that shows the publication date and broad subject. Click the title links to access the articles.

For books, use the WorldCat link below. That is the name of our catalog. Once in, type su: smoking. The "su:" makes it a subject search, meaning your results will only include books that have the word smoking in the library subjects.

Click the title links to get into the detailed record. From there, if it is a print book, you will see the call number and availability. If it's an eBook, you will see a link to access.

When off campus, you will have to log in with your last name and COM ID to access any databases, including getting into the eBooks.

Below I also included links to our MLA Citation and our EBSCO eBooks LibGuides. The MLA guide gives instructions on getting the citations from our database under the Cite the EZ Way tab. The Formatting tab shows you how to make a hanging indent. There are also links on in-text citations and examples for citing different types of sources.

For eBooks, see the guide for instructions on using them, and how to download and transfer to eReaders if you want. You can view them without doing this, so it's up to you.
