Is there any way I can chat with the online librarian without it asking me to configure my firewall??
Answer
Sorry about that. We have not run across that particular problem before.
I have reviewed Meebo’s support (we use the Meebo widget for out live chat) and it is not mentioned as an issue. If you have a laptop you can bring it to our lab in the library and our lab staff will be happy try and trouble shoot it for you.
If you don’t care to do that, there are alternatives. You can go to http://asklibrary.com.edu/ to ask a question, you can email us, text us (409-229-4142), call us (409-229-4142) or tweet us.
FYI Meebo says specifically:
“Chat on any web browser. Nothing to download, nothing to install, and no firewall issues; you can chat on any computer with a supported browser and an internet connection.”
They recommend Firefox, but support the following browsers:
Windows
· Internet Explorer 6.x
· Internet Explorer 7.x
· Internet Explorer 8.x
· Firefox
· Safari
Mac
· Safari
· Firefox
Linux/BSD/etc
· Firefox

All these question are answered by real COM Library staff, so we can only answer if we're open.
