When printing an Excel sheet on a PC and cells are selected outside of the print area, and I am assuming that you have "set a print area", then you should still be able to print. This could be an issue with your printer, not the Excel sheet itself.
I explained your printing question from the perspective of using a PC because I am unfamiliar with using Excel on a MAC, although there should not be a huge difference between Excel on a PC and a MAC. It is the differences in the systems that they operate on that may cause disimilarities in how they work.
