Answer

You can find literary criticism of this story in books, ebooks, and articles.

For books and eBooks, follow the link below to our library catalog, WorldCat.  Search for su:Henry, O., -- 1862-1910.  There are not any books exclusively about the story, but there are books about O. Henry that offer some criticism of the story.  This eBook is a good example.

For articles, follow the link below to a list of available literature databases.  From the list, select individual databases to search.  EBSCO Literary Reference Center, Gale Literature Resources, and GVRL eBooks are all good places to look.

In EBSCO Literary Reference Center, search for gift of the magi and then limit to literary cricisim from the list of options on the left.

In Gale Literature Resources, select the Works Search tab and search for the title of the story.

In GVRL eBooks, a search for the title will retrieve an overview and analysis from Short Stories for Students, as well as some other writings that discuss the story.
