Answer

When you are in Ebsco and want to be able to retrieve an article at a later date, there are two options: save it while signed into your Ebsco account, or copy the permalink.

To save it to your folder, sign into your Ebsco account before you begin searching (creating an Ebsco account is free and only takes a moment).  When you are signed in, you can add any articles of interest to your folder.  You then can sign into your Ebsco account at a later date, from any computer, and retrieve the contents of the folder.

Alternatively, you can click on permalink from the list of options to the right of the article, and then paste it into an address bar when you wish to retrieve it later.  Permalinks will work regardless of whether or not you are signed into an Ebsco account.  A permalink will look something like this:

https://ezproxy.com.edu/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=c8h&AN=2011678400&site=ehost-live&scope=site

The permalink is different from what is displayed in the address bar while you are looking in the database.  For example, the web address for the article in the permalink above is this:

http://web.ebscohost.com/ehost/detail?vid=9&hid=7&sid=61dbd9e1-2aa5-4a41-b8b6-b251fdebca8c%40sessionmgr14&bdata=JnNpdGU9ZWhvc3QtbGl2ZSZzY29wZT1zaXRl#db=c8h&AN=2011678400

Unlike the permalink, this address will not work if you try to reuse it at a later date or from another computer.  However, if you mistakenly copy this instead of the permalink and need to retrieve the article later on, there is a way to do it.  You will need to retrieve the accession number from the url and paste it into the Ebsco search bar.  The AN number will be prefixed by "AN=".  For example, the AN number for the article above is 2011678400.  If you copy this and paste it into the search box in Ebsco, it will find the article.
