How can I create an MLA citation for a book I found in Google Books?

You can do this in several ways:

1. Create the citation from scratch by following the citation rules in our Cite MLA Style Libguide, linked below.  Select the Cite Web tab and look in the 'Web nonperiodical' section.

2. Go to an automatic citation generator website and enter all needed information to have the site create the citation for you.  There are some links to such sites in the Cite MLA libguide, under the Cite MLA the EZ Way! tab.

3. Find the book in the global library catalog, WorldCat, which can generate MLA citations.  Follow the link below to WorldCat, enter the title (and possibly author) of the book in the search bar, select 'Libraries Worldwide', and search.  Once you find the book in the search results, select it.  In its item record, click on Cite/Export to view citations in several formats.  If you get the citation this way, you will have to modify it so that it reflects that you accessed the book from Google (the automatic citation is for a print book).  Modify it using the rules mentioned in option #1.
