How do I make a block quote in Word for my mla style paper?
Answer
MLA requires that any quotation over four lines be started on a new line, indented 1 inch from the margin, double spaced without quotation marks, essentially a block quote. For more, see our Cite MLA Style LibGuide (link below).
In Word, once you have typed in the text you want for your block quote:
- Highlight it
- Click on the indent icon twice in the ribbon to get a 1 inch indent--the default setting for indent is .5 inches, so clicking twice makes it an inch.
Alternatively, you could:
- Highlight the text
- Right click and select paragraph
- Under indent change left to 1".
